Performances and events liven the town center where there was once a parking lot. The area now has an open green, improved parking, planting beds, seating areas, and an amphitheatre.
TRAIN STATION CLOCK
Swarthmore residents mark time by the traditional clock installed at the train station.
A pair of benches and a garden, maintained by the Swarthmore Horticultural Society, anchor the clock.
A gateway into Swarthmore exists on a former vacant lot purchased by the Centennial Foundation. The Foundation installed a granite welcome sign and created a green buffer with lush landscaping between Baltimore Pike and the entrance into Swarthmore.
The Foundation funds the replanting of the beds each season.
SWARTHMORE BOROUGH HALL BELL CANOPY
A canopy was installed at the entrance into Borough Hall to house a bell that is rung on the Fourth of July and at other special events.
The Foundation’s first project was the creation of a mini-park with a seating area and plantings in the Town Center.
